Google have shut down Map Maker due to Vandalism. Map Maker launched in 2008, became quickly popular. It was a way for locals to update and correct information around where they live.
This was very useful, as people could make changes when new roads or buildings where constructed.
Even though every change had to be moderated, and approved by google, but things would slip the net, like the famous incident back in 2015 when a mischievous user submitted an image of Google Android logo urinating on an Apple Logo and it slipped though the validation process.
Map Maker officially closed ob 31st March 2017.
